MAGIC FILTERS AND UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY MAGAZINE #3049
October 24, 2008 - 10:30 AM

Our good friends Alex Mustard and Peter Rowlands shared a booth with us to represent Magic Filters and Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP). Alex and Peter started Magic Filters to provide an easy, ready-cut solution to underwater filter photography for both SLRs and compact cameras. They were also showing a new educational DVD called Shooting Magic, which comes out in a week.

Peter Rowlands represented UwP, which is a free underwater photography magazine published bi-monthly.

Magic Filters which is a selection of educational chapters that show the technical and artistic aspects of underwater filter photography (that is, shooting with filters—not taking photos of filters :). It is the first of a series of DVDs on underwater photography technique, and gets into the nitty-gritty of how to do everything. The entire UW photo process has been captured on video, and you can watch Alex as he takes both good and bad shots, and what he does to adjust his camera, strobes and body position between each shot. Alex shoots both SLRs and compact cameras in each video segment; most techniques that are relevant to both setups, but the DVD breaks out into compact- and DSLR-specific snippets when necesssary.

Shooting Magic is a selection of chapters, and should be treated as a resource rather than a film. It has 90 minutes of video, and comes out next week.

Finally, Magic Filters and UwP would like to announce that THEY ARE HERE. You should expect to see them at DEMA events in the future—great for the Wetpixel crew, since we don’t get to see them nearly enough.
