DEMA 2006: Aquatica

Aquatica’s booth: Blake Stoughton, Norma Alonzo, and Peter Mooney

Exciting news!  Accessory viewfinders are being more and more popular!  Aquatica was proudly displaying a pro-production model of their new AquaView viewfinder, which featured a large, bright, clear picture.  Also on display was the A30D housing for Canon’s EOS 30D digital SLR.  I am impressed that the A30D’s ergonomic improvements over Aquatica’s earlier housings for Canon SLRs.

AquaView Viewfinder notes:

- design doesn’t block the camera’s LCD
- very easy to install and remove, even in the field
- uses retaining o-ring to hold the finder in
- works with all current housings: D200, 5D, D2X
- good placement for splits. Mauricio Handler says eyes and nose are above water.
- available 2nd week of December
- cost: USD $1149

Aquatica A30D underwater housing for Canon EOS 30D digital SLR:

- newest housing
- has redesigned ergonomics, placing both dials under fingertips!
- interchangeable saddle
- rock solid camera mounting. i couldn’t move the camera.

The A30D’s ergonomics are a vast improvement over earlier models!  Kudos to Aquatica for listening to her users.

Also, rumors circulate of a pending announcement of a 9.5” glass “UltraDome”.
