Stephen Frink tests the Canon 16-35mm II Photo

Stephen Frink tests the Canon 16-35mm II

With Canon’s recent release of a redesigned 16-35mm lens that promised sharper corners, a lot of discussion has focused on comparisons between the new and old versions of the lens, and the combinations of ports and extensions for the best results. Professional underwater photographer and Wetpixel member Stephen Frink obtained a copy of the 16-35mm II to test underwater using a Seacam housing and ports.

Based on his results, compared to Canon’s 16-35mm I, 17-40mm, and 15mm fisheye, the 16-35mm II has much better color and contrast…[and] is very sharp in the center. To view images from each lens, continue to Frink’s Canon 16-35mm II results, or add your own impressions in the ongoing thread...

2007 Asian Dive Exposition (ADEX) in Bangkok

By far the biggest exhibitor was PADI…ADEX is also the place where many new dive resorts and liveaboards market their products. The most surprising one that I found was the booth for Christmas Island, an Australian destination known for the great red crab migration…

Standard versus Enhanced Viewfinders - Size Matters Photo

Standard versus Enhanced Viewfinders - Size Matters

Wetpixel lighting moderator Julian Scheunemann has written an excellent article comparing the relative size and brightness of various camera viewfinders when viewed through both regular and enhanced Sealux underwater finders.

It was kind of a luxury during film days to have [an enhanced viewfinder]...things have become a bit more critical with digital APS cameras because the simple housing finders now shrink an already cropped camera viewfinder image even further. Different from simple housing optics, enhanced viewfinders almost maintain the size of the camera’s viewfinder underwater (close to 1:1)...
