DEMA 2008: Fantasea

Fantasea‘s goal is to provide affordable underwater photography and diving products. They have full underwater photography systems that include a housing, base, arms, strobes, and connectors. Howard and Nadav Rosenstein took Matt Segal and me on a tour of their new products.

Last month, Fantasea kicked off a strobe naming contest on Wetpixel, which resulted in the re-naming of their newest strobe, the Remora…

DEMA: Ultralight Control Systems (ULCS)

Ultralight Control Systems (ULCS) is probably the strongest brand in underwater bases, handles, balls & clamps, and strobe arms. From what I’ve seen, the majority of serious shooters out there (whom I travel with, anyway) use ULCS products, and ULCS says that in their 15 years in business, no arm has ever broken and been returned to them for warranty work.

ULCS had a wide array of underwater photography accessories on display at their booth, including their line of solid buoyancy arms and a tripod clamp and adapts three ULCS arms into an underwater tripod.

A new 45° viewfinder was also on display, attached to the D700 housing.

DEAM 2008: NEXUS USA

NEXUS USA had a booth at this year’s DEMA, but no one was there to man it. Joe Holley of Marine Visions (an authorized dealer), set up a cardboard display to represent the company.

NEXUS is sort of a mystery to many of us. It’s pretty clear that they would be able to sell many more housings than they actually produce, but there doesn’t seem to be any effort to ramp up production.

DEMA 2008: Magic Filters and UwP Mag

Our good friends Alex Mustard and Peter Rowlands shared a booth with us to represent Magic Filters and Underwater Photography Magazine (UwP). Alex and Peter started Magic Filters to provide an easy, ready-cut solution to underwater filter photography for both SLRs and compact cameras. They were also showing a new educational DVD called Shooting Magic, which comes out in a week.

Peter Rowlands represented UwP, which is a free underwater photography magazine published bi-monthly.
