Wetpixel at Beneath the Sea 2010
Good news! Wetpixel is going to Beneath the Sea 2010, which will be held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, New Jersey, from March 26- 28. We’ll be in booth 109, and will be showing off our magazine and t-shirts while we cover the show.
Editors Eric Cheng and Elijah Woolery will be on the floor, as will moderator Abi Smigel and volunteers Tony Granata, Drew Wohl and Sandrah Gurash.

Canon finally releases EOS Movie Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro
It’s Canon SLR video day! After totally botching the first announcement on February 8, Canon have finally made available the EOS Movie Plugin-E1, which adds Canon SLR compatibility to Log & Transfer in Final Cut Pro. To download it, go to Canon’s download page and select “Mac OS X” as your operating system, and download the file, ce1100x.dmg.zip.
Underwater video expert Mary Lynn Price writes, “ have learned that the plugin seems to work great, with the caveat that it is necessary to keep all the thumbnails (the .THM files) in the DCIM folder, otherwise the clip missing the thumbnail file won’t show up in the Log & Transfer window.”

Canon Releases Updated 5D Mark II Firmware
Canon has just released a revised version of the firmware update for the 5D Mark II to address an issue involving manual audio levels control. According to Canon,
“There was a phenomenon in which the manual recording settings made in C1/C2/C3 were changed and sound could not be recorded if manual sound recording was used in the C1/C2/C3 settings and the camera was subsequently turned off (or if Auto Power Off was activated). This does not occur in modes other than C1/C2/C3.”
Firmware version 2.0.4 is available for immediate download here and is recommended for anyone who already installed version 2.0.3.
Obama wants your feedback on how copyright infringement affects you
The Obama administration’s Intellect Property Enforcement Coordinator, Victoria Espinel, is asking for feedback on how copyright infringement affects photographers and how best to deal with such crimes. There is a proposition for an Act in Congress which will provide protection for artists who’s copyrights are violated. As a requirement, public feedback is required and encouraged. So please let your voice be heard on how intellectual property theft affects you. The deadline is Mar 24, 2010 at 1700hrs EST.
Trimming video clips created by digital SLRs in Final Cut Pro
Anyone who has tried using Final Cut Pro to export trimmed video clips from their new digital SLR should follow this forum discussion about how to do it properly. Apparently, Final Cut Pro has had a long-standing bug that makes it unable to properly trim and export video clips that lack timecode. Since video clips taken with a digital SLR do not contain timecode, this is an issue that will affect many people.
