Zen release dome port for Olympus Pen E-PL1

Zen Underwater has announced the release of a dome port, specifically for the Olympus Pen E-PL1 micro four thirds camera when housed in a Olympus PT-EP01. The optically coated glass dome port offers a distortion free 100° wide angle field of view when used with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 9-18mm f/4-f/5.6 lens. Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 get 3D panorama update

Sony has released a firmware update that allows the NEX EVIL cameras to produce 3D panoramas.

Rather than a conventional stereoscopic dual lens approach, Sony Sweep Panorama technology works by shooting a burst of frames while the camera is panned across a scene. This development is exciting as Sony are obviously using some fancy processing techniques to figure out the perspective of the panning action. The panoramas they produce will also be viewable on Sony 3D televisions.

The NEX-5 and NEX-3 firmware updates incorporating the Sweep Panorama technology are now available from Sony Europe.

Extreme ISO settings with the D3s, 1D Mark IV and Lightroom 3

Eric Reagan on Photography Bay has done some very interesting comparisons of extreme ISO settings, and the new noise reduction function in Lightroom 3.

In his test, the new software comprehensively out performs Lightroom 2, Canon DPP and View NX. He conducted experiments at night, using ISO’s 6400, 12800, 25600, 51200 and 102400 using a Canon 1D Mk IV and a Nikon D3s.

His conclusion is that:

“While these images at ISO 6400 and above are extreme examples from two state of the art DSLRs, the processing power in Lightroom 3 will push any other RAW files to the next level as well.”
