Nikon re-registers Nikonos trademark
Wetpixel member Geo has kindly pointed out an interesting development from Nikon. Nikon Rumors notes that the company has just re-registered the trademark “NIKONOS.” This had expired in 2008. Of course, this may simply reflect an attempt to preserve apart of Nikon’s heritage, but equally, it may be a sign that the company is considering the underwater market in its product development plans.

The 2018 Wetpixel Whale Sharks trip is underway! Every year hundreds of whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) gather North of the island of Isla Mujeres, close to Cancun, Mexico. The aggregation provides one of the most amazing natural spectacles in the underwater world. We will be posting daily reports, so please check back often

The second annual THINK PINK photo contest has announced its results. The contest features images with the color pink in theme and proceeds are donated to breast cancer research organizations. Congratulations to winners Henley Spiers and Eduardo Arribada and to all those among the placings.

Episode One of the new web series, Timor Leste From Below, has been released. The series is the next in line from Scubazoo, the production company that also produced the scuba diving web series Borneo From Below. The series will consist of ten episodes and will feature different aspects of diving Timor Leste.

Winners of the 2018 Scuba Diving magazine photo contest have been announced
The winners of the 2018 Scuba Diving magazine underwater photo contest have been announced. Winners were selected from the more than 2,100 entries. A grand prize winner as well as winners of the three categories were selected: Wide-Angle, Macro, Conceptual and Compact Camera. The grand prize image was shot by Rodney Bursiel.
Behind the scenes of Eric Church’s Rolling Stones underwater photo shoot
The cover of the current issue of Rolling Stone features an underwater photo of Nashville singer Eric Church, photographed by Joe Pugliese. An accompanying video highlights getting the shot and the purpose of using an underwater shot for the accompanying interview. Church was photographed in a pool with his guitar.
