Anemone fish use more energy when host anemone bleaches

In a study published today, scientists have shown that when anemones bleach, or expel their photosynthesizing algae, resident anemone fish suffer as well. The scientists were looking to prove if the fish suffer during times of stress for the host anemone, like when water temperature increases. Although anemones seem to rebound after bleaching events, the scientists proved the fish expend much more energy during bleaching events and produce significantly less offspring, although they could not prove why.

Wetpixel and Sam’s Tours hosted a image makers party during the ADEX Show, Singapore. Over 50 people gathered at Vatos Urban Tacos to chat, socialize, network and have good time. The party drank the bar dry at the original venue, before heading on to another bar and keeping on going until 3am. Fortunately for those of us unable to attend, Wetpixel’s Drew Wong was on hand to document the action.

Ichthyosaur bone may belong to largest animal to have ever lived

In a recently published study, scientists have described a prehistoric reptile that lived in the oceans and could potentially be the largest animal to have ever lived on earth. In the paper scientists describe an animal that belonged to a 3.2 foot long jawbone found in England. They believe the animal to have been 85-feet long, just shy of the largest animal to have ever lived on earth, the blue whale.
