Great White Shark tagged off South Carolina last year shows up in Gulf of Mexico

Hilton, the 12-foot 1,326 pound great white shark that was tagged by Ocearch off Hilton Head, South Carolina in March of last year, just showed up in the Gulf of Mexico. However, the resulting path of the “Twitter famous” shark showed him traveling across the Florida panhandle to reach said location. Followers on social media had a lot to say about the tracking, which has made the shark even more infamous. Scientists believe the relatively small male shark may have moved to the Gulf of Mexico to take advantage of the warmer water and abundant deepwater fish.

Ikelite are shipping their 200DL housing for the Sony Alpha A7 III, A7R III and A9 mirrorless cameras. Featuring the company’s new Dry Lock port system, the housing is constructed of signature white ABS-PC and is fitted with a vacuum port as standard. TTL strobe triggering with Ikelite DS strobes is available with the addition of an optional TTL circuit and manual electrical triggering is available with other brands of strobe.

Winning WPOTY image disqualified Photo

Winning WPOTY image disqualified

The image that won the Animals in their Environment category of the 2017 Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPOTY) has been disqualified. The image, taken by Marcio Cabral in Brazil’s Emas National Park, won the Animals in their Environment category of the contest in 2017. It purports to show an anteater moving towards a termite mound but seems to have been staged using a taxidermically stuffed animal.

FWC remains uncommitted to Goliath Grouper protection

After a public meeting on 26 April, the Florida Wildlife Commission has postponed the decision on opening a harvest of critically endangered goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara). This mean that although there is no immediate plan to reopen them to fishing, the commissioners did not commit to any form of permanent protection and in fact stated that if studies show that the species number have “increased,” fishing will resume.
